Sandblasting is a type of abrasive blasting which involves propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface contaminants. But while it is most often used to clean pipes and smooth rough surfaces, it can also have other uses, as self taught artist Kyle Goodwin showed.

An avid surfer for more than 20 years, he uses sandblasting to create visually exciting and realistic designs in glass, as you can see here.

“I strive to create unique work that stands alone…I am obsessed with details and thinking “outside the box”. I have visions as to how I see my work and where I want to take it.  Progression and invention is a big part of creating and I’m always thinking of the next way or what I can do next to make the imagery more realistic or to make my work recognized as different.”

If you enjoy his art, you can find out more about him, and if edgy sandblasting rooms are your thing, you can purchase them here.
