Colours and language — how the two influence each other

There are as many colours as you can name. In some cultures, like Africa's Himba tribe, they can only name five colours, for instance.

ZME gentlemen, if you’ve ever found yourself in a paint store with a member of the opposite sex than you know how debilitating the ensuing discussions can be. What looks like blue to you can actually be “laguna blue” or “blue macaw”. Not long after you begin to question whether you’re colour blind or just stupid.

While there’s evidence that suggests men and women do see things differently, I think most of the time these sort of situations are due to language. After all, there’s a relationship between language and colour. If you missed it, this infographic has it explained at a glance.
