Many of you have signalled that you don’t get all our posts on Facebook. This happens because of Facebook’s algorithm, that tends to filter out most of the posts from your liked pages. It’s not an official figure, but from what I’ve observed, the things we post often times reach less than 10% of you! In other words, the odds are that you’re only getting less than 10% of the things we post.
Again, this is something out of our control, it’s just how Facebook does things. However, there are some things you can do to see all or more of our stories:
- Subscribe on our website feed. We send all our stories via email to our subscribers, be it on Feedburner or using Mail Chimp. All our posts are also published directly on the website, so you can check them out there if it’s easier for you.
- Like/share/comment on our posts. If Facebook sees that you are engaged with our page, they will show you more of the stuff we post. You can also make sure you have both ‘Liked’ and ‘Following’ on our page, that helps a lot!
- All our stories are automatically shared on Twitter.
Of course, not all of you are on Twitter, not everybody wants to subscribe, and there’s only so much you can do to influence Facebook’s algorithm. If you only want to check us out on Facebook and not do anything else, there’s another way you can do it. We’ve created this list:
Follow it, and it will appear under “interests” in the bar on the left hand side of your Facebook feed. Every time a post appears, a number will show up next to it, letting you know that there’s a new post. You can also make your own list (like adding all your favorite science websites) with the same results. I actually have a list with all the geology pages I want to follow, and it’s quite useful and easy to browse.
So, hope this helps, and see you all on Facebook!
