Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden (pron.: /oÊËsÉËmÉ bÉªn moÊËhÉËmÉ¨d bÉªn ÉËwÉËd bÉªn ËlÉËdÉn/; Arabic: Ø£Ø³Ø§ÙØ© Ø¨Ù ÙØÙØ¯ Ø¨Ù Ø¹ÙØ¶ Ø¨Ù ÙØ§Ø¯Ùâ, Ê¾UsÄmah bin Muá¸¥ammad bin Ê¿Awaá¸ bin LÄdin; March 10, 1957 â May 2, 2011) was the founder of al-Qaeda, the militant Islamist organization that claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks on the United States, along with numerous other mass-casualty attacks against civilian and military targets.[2][3][4] He was a member of the wealthy Saudi bin Laden family, and an ethnic Yemeni Kindite.[5]
