Physics of the Impossible - Possible ?

Michio Kaku, a highly regarded physicist and one of the world’s leading authorities on string theory (essentially an attempt to discover a “theory of everything” combining all of the known physical forces) has virtually redefined what is impossible and what is not. He has studied and tried to predict the future of science and physics in particular. What he did is he broke down the “impossibilities” in three classes:
But perhaps what’s the most surprising thing is that limited teleportation, humanoid robots, force fields, telepathy and starships that could go to other distant planets fall in the first category. This may sound just unbelievable, but think how would have scientists of the 19th century responded if you would have told them about internet, mach 3 and atomic bombs. What’s even more amazing is that despite the fact that he doesn’t have any proof to suggest that these will be accomplished, he has the facts that back up the fact that they could be made with technology not so far away from us.
In the 2nd category he names faster than light travel and time machines (and more); these are at the very verge of our knowledge and may even take millions of years to achieve. However, in the 3rd category he just points out perpetuum mobile (perpetual motion machines) and precognition (the ability to see into the future).

i agree with lots of things being possible in the future, however, i also think that some things just aren’t meant to be. you can dream all you want and predict all you want, some things will never be invented!

I read aboout this at the Discovery Channel Magazine and I enjoyed it there. This is a simple summary of what it said there and it is pretty food. This is a great post and keep it up

Errrr, isn’t that what he said?

god was, but god was not a god.

It’s always interesting to think about things like this, but I think doctor is just understanding the mind rather than physics.

I think the human race has incredible potential and could probably accomplish amazing things, if we could overcome our excesses. I think it’s ironic that the very things that would cause us to want to travel to another planet, i.e. destroying Earth because of our retarded energy misuse, are the ones we need to master before we can even fathom space travel on an interstellar scale. If we don’t master that, we are doomed anyways, so no space travel to distant star systems, and I would guess Earth would make another dominant race after we managed to kill ourselves off, lol.

I like this. It s a quick, concise classification system with a bunch of good examples. While usually I ignore him anytime I see him (because he s babbling about old news), one thing Michio Kaku is certainly good at is reducing science into easily-understood chunks (for laymen) that don t leave out too much detail.

Except that scientists already sustained a perpetual motion machine for a very short time with the use of zero friction nano materials at zero/nearzero degrees.
\ So that one falls in the first category

precognition (the ability to see into the future). is possible! Because everything in the world goes by some sort of logic, if you were to make a giant model of the universe, including everything’s moves, then you can predict the future. so that falls in the second category
